Penang 12th to 15th February 2009

Penang, Malaysia 12th to 15th February 2009

My 2nd Time in Penang visiting relatives.

Day 1, Thursday, 12th February 2009

The journey from Johor Senai Airport to Penang was a smooth trip. 1st meal is at this Organic Vegetarian Restaurant.

Restaurant Details:
Seed Natural Food Cafe
6 Nagore Road, 10050, Penang. Tel: 04-229 7903 (Open Mon-Sat 9am-6pm)

We started with a very refreshing salad.

Pesto pasta (If you are a pesto fan like me, you will like this light and healthier version. :) )
Special Brown Rice Set - Rice was a bit soggy

Dinner at this special Indian Restaurant. (This 'pay whatever you feel like' restaurant is also available in Singapore)

Annalakshimi
1 Babington Avenue, off Barrack Road, George Town. Phone : +60 4 228 8575

(Got this address from the Web, forgot to get the restaurant name card...)

Really appreciated my cousin's effort to arrange all our meals location. But as I seldom eat deep fried Indian Rojak, so cant comment much. My favourite Indian food would be Naan, North Indian Curries and Thosai... Yum...

Day 2, Friday, 13th February 2009

Breakfast Time. Hawker Centre opposite my Aunt House at Rifle Range. This place is unknown to tourists but is really a place for cheap and delicious food.

Aunt told mom that there is one stall that sells nice hokkien mee. We managed to locate the stall according to mom's description.

Penang's hokkien mee is different from Singapore. Our's is fried with prawn broth. Penang style is prawn noodle soup with chilli.

I ordered Prawn Mee and Uncle ordered Lor Mee. I tested a little bit of Uncle's Lor Mee and I was amazed. Why? Because I never like Lor Mee. The taste of Penang's Lor Mee is so different from Singapore although it looked exactly the same. Probably because of the generous and good quality spices they used.

I was so mesmerized by the taste that I had to remember the stall. Since stalls dont have namecard. I took a photo of the stall numbers on the bowl.

Lunch Time. Went back to Seed Natural Cafe for their Hakka 'Thunder Tea Rice' only available on Friday.

I love 'Thunder Tea Rice' and this is one of the best that I tried. So similar to my favourite 'Thunder Tea Rice' Shop in Joo Chiat. This one is even healthier as it is less oily and used organic vegetables and brown rice.

Tested a bit of Uncle's 'Hong Zao' Mee Sua. Too 'watery' and a bit bland for my perference. My mom used to cook 'Hong Zao' chicken for Uncle before she turned Vegetarian as it was Uncle's fav dish. It was very delicious and until now, I have not yet find a match against my mom, hee...

Tea time! Assam Laksa at the famous stall in Ayer Hitam Market near Ji Le Temple.

This is the stall with the boss preparing the delicious sourish laksa.

The stall's boss is my 舅舅 primary school's classmate! Time really flies...

舅母 accompanying mommy at the vegetarian food shop opposite the laksa stall.

This is another famous milk stall just beside the vegetarian restaurant.

The boss is my 舅舅's 'godson'. How small can the neighbourhood be??? Haha...

I think we ordered Plain Milk with Egg. The taste is so smooth and delicious...

Night Time. For some magnificient Penang Night view, we went to Ji Le Temple.

The Temple is only opened at night during CNY Period.

I dont know that the Mickey Mouse Chair is blue until I took the photo. The lighting is so orangy that everything seems so ... err... orange???

Huh!!! No Shoes!!!??

What should I do???? Faintz!!! Hahaha...

Beautiful Night View of George Town.

Dinner at this newly opened Food Court.

Cha Kueh Gak (Fried Radish Cake spelled According to the Penang's pronouciation)

Zhu Chang Fen

Curry Fried Rice

Wu Xiang (Deep Fried 5-spices)

Day 3, 14th February 2009

Breakfast. Hokkien Mee recommended by Cousin and 舅母
Penang ever so yummy traditional coffee. (In Penang, you rarely find lousy coffee. I am a avid coffee drinker and kinda choosy, this sure top my list of great coffee. Just to mention, NescXXe, the most popular instant coffee around the world hits the bottom of my list, hahaha...)

Cousin and 舅母 told us that this stall in the market is famous to the local. Not much tourist know about this delicious hokkien mee sold here.

The old bakery which already exist when my mom was small.

The Famous Tau Sar Piah at the bottom of Ji Le Temple. I bought a lot but was very disappointed. It was not very fresh and lacks the aroma. I still prefer the Tau Sar Piah that I bought the first time I came to Penang. Cant remember that shop name but it was also a famous brand starting with alphabet H.

Today is Temples Tour for Mom and Uncle. We went to quite a few famous temple in Penang.

Very Huge Sleeping Buddha.

Sleeping beauty, hee...

So cute...

Lunch back at Lily's Restaurant.

Oldest Chinese Temple in Penang.

Dinner with Cousin at Paddington House of Pancake at the New Queensbay Mall.

Maybe because today is Valentine's Day. They were too busy and thus service and food standard were not very good.

Main Course was cold... We requested them to heat it up.

The only compensation was the Dessert that they are famous for. Really yummy.... Salivia starts drooling again, hahaha...

My Aunt's shop. She really does a great job in sewing. She can almost repair anything that can be sewn. Bags, Clothes, Shoes, Belts etc...

Mommy and Aunt.

Dim Sum Breakfast

After breakfast, it's time to say goodbye... Will be back soon!!!
