Shimbashi soba at Paragon 20th March 2009

Friday, 20th March 2009

Dinner was at Shimbashi Soba at Paragon's Basement. Managed to persuade a very tired Kelvin who was burned out by heavy workload to eat something not within his choice for dinner tonight.

The restaurant is supposedly famous for it's soba.

We ordered one set meal to try.

Verdict:
Overall, food was ok. But their 'speciality', the soba noodles was a disappointment. Although the soup was a little oily because of the deep fried sweet beancurd skin, the taste was quite good.

However, the noodles was not 'chewy, bouncy and Q' enough. I cant explained it but it was just not up to standard. What I can say is that I think I can cook up better soba than this.

The most important issue, to me, is that the price of the food is a bit high to justify the ONLY above AVERAGE food standard.

Would I give the restaurant another chance... Hmmm... I am not sure...

We want to compensate for the not so satisfying dinner with some sweet treats so we decided to have ice cream from Bravissimo Italian Gelato Ice Cream.

We ordered a cone with 2 scoops of ice cream. We chose caramel and durian.

The caramel was good but the durian was not so fulfilling... The taste was a bit 'fake'...

One of Kelvin's special talent --- Ice Cream Sculpturing, hee...
